Would you elaborate on that please - what exactly happens when you try to send?

Posting on the Board is not sending email - you don't need OE open to post, so your problem is common to both IE and OE.

Which version of IE/OE are you running and with which OS?

It sounds as if a repair of IE might be your best move, but before you try that a couple of other things to do .........

Run a full virus scan - with the lastest virus definitions for your scanner, of course.

Run an online virus scan at Housecall

Run Spybot and AdAware . Update their reference files before running and run Spybot before AdAware.

That should clear up most possibilities that your problem is virus/spyware related.

If this fails my only remaining suggestion is a repair of IE/OE - unless someone else chips in with an alternative suggestion.

All four computers on my home network have the same problem.

Could the router cause this problem?

Routers are completely outside my experience - I have a single dialup. But now that you mention 4 computers with the same problem the chances of each one being fouled up are remote I would think and with the router being the common link, every chance that the problem lies there.

Sorry I can't help in that area. You might like to start another thread - 'Router problems - can't send email from 4 PC's' - or something like that.

    Update.

Hey Pete. Just for your information. I changed the MTU setting of my router from 1492 to 576 and things started to work again. A setting of 576 is low for a broadband connection, but at least things are working so I can test a little further. I have no idea what caused this to happen. Thanks again for your help Pete.:)

Original explanation of problem that I could not post.

Sorry about the short and to the point first post, I'll make up for it here. As well as not being able to send mail, it appears that posting to a forum such as this is not working properly either. I tried unsuccessfully 5 times before being able to post. Sometimes I can post, sometimes it just sits there trying to post and never does. It also appears that a short message will post and a longer message won't post. My son also found that he could not register at a forum either.
This problem started with the inability to send email. While trying to correct this problem, I found that when I sent a short "test" email with one word in the message body it would send all right. If I put a larger text message in it would not send and the following error message would result.

"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'Re: email', Account: ' ', Server: ' ', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F "

Up until this point everything on this home network worked flawlessly, with very little problem. The only change in the last week that I know about for sure is that I have changed ISP's. My out going ISP account is good until Oct. 21 and I signed up with the new ISP on Oct. 7. The new ISP have not phoned me yet to stay that I am connected, but I do have a user name and password and have been on their website and have also talked to their techincal support people. The support guy was very nice and tried his hardest, but had to admit that he had never heard of or dealt with a problem like mine and couldn't help me. This is a DSL connection that has also been fairly reliable.
This may be enough information for you, or maybe TOO much information. At any rate any and all help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

So as not to confuse anybody, this is my original post describing my problem. I could not post it originally because the problem I was having would not allow me to post more than a sentence or two of text. Go figure.
