    I just got an old win95 machine from a friend and notice that there are no MSINFO32 or MSCONFIG programs/options in win95 (unlike win98/XP). I can't even find an alternative "System Information" option in the 'Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools' menu from the Start menu. Are/were there no such options in Win95?

    Hmm... I did try copying the Win98 one over before, but it wouldn't work (but I had put it in the windows dir initially). Tried again with the one from the site you mentioned and put it in the \windows\system dir and now when I run it I don't get an error but nothing happens. It never runs. As if it just went into oblivion. Checked what is running with ctrl-alt-del AND a special pgm I have that shows all running apps/dlls but it just isn't running.
    Very odd.

    I've tried it, by putting it to floppy, then running msconfig.exe from the run box. That doesn't work for you?

    I've been running the W98 version of MSCONFIG for several years on W95b (OSR2) without any problems. A DLL tracker I have shows it's using just the standard W95 system DLL's, so it should run OK on all W95 flavours. It doesn't matter where you run it from.

    Prior to W2K/XP, MSINFO3 was installed with MS OFFICE.

    Open a dos window and type this in
    set <press enter>
    You should see a line like this
    PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
    That is a default command path, any file in those folders can be run from Start\Run. Note that C:\Windows\System is not in the path, when you put MsConfig in the System folder, it is not found.
    What error message do you get when it is in the Windows folder?
    I know you could put that file anywhere, make a shortcut to it, and it will work.

    I don't get an error. It simply looks as if it ran, but no window opens up and if I check for it in the task list OR with a special software I have that tracks running processes, it is not there. Just goes poof. I know it SHOULD work, but it doesn't.

    I think you may have an active virus. Some will kill Msconfig and Regedit as soon as you run them, so you cannot prevent them from running. As an alternative, you could try renaming Msconfig to something else to see if it will run.
