Recently, I installed some un-required Window's updates from the official Window's update site. Now that I have, whenever I startup or restart, once I get to the the main screen after selecting the user, my computer takes forever to get ready. My harddrive light keeps on flashing, and this has never happened before. After about 5 minutes, it goes back to normal, but this when the harddrive light is flashing nothing works well. Does anyone know what's wrong? There are no viruses or anything. I check with Nortan Anti-Virus. Please help!

Hi XxdestinyxX - Welcome to the Board :)

First suggestion would be to uninstall those updates that you don't want - not always possible, but some can be un-installed.

Go to Add/Remove Programs - if they are listed there they can be uninstalled.

Your problem may not be connected with Windows Updates at all. As you run a virus checker - definitions up todate? - you should also look for spyware,

Download Spybot and AdAware , update their reference files and run Spybot before AdAware.

Thanks Pete. Actually I solved the problem. I uninstalled the new updates and then ran Speed Disk (a program which comes with Nortan Utilities; it's technically a defragmentator) to optimize my hardrive, and it started like regular without that wait. Thanks for the help, and hopefully this information might help others!

Glad to hear you solved the problem - I would re-install the updates one by one - with a day or so in between each - to determine which one caused the slowdown.
