Can someone tell me how to let a limited user account have access to an extra program, in this case Musicmatch jukebox, without using "run as" which needs me to divulge the admin password.
I am using XP home on this particular PC.

    Thanks in advance :)

I can tell you how to do it on XP-pro and I think that if you boot Xp-home to safe mode you'll have the same option. No system of that flavor to play with though so can't be positive.

In safe mode and logged on as an admin, open Windows Explorer and locate the app. You'll probably need to tweak security for the entire folder though.

Right-click on the folder, properties, and the security tab (that for some reason doesn't display in normal mode with XP-home) and add the user account to security for the folder. Probably read & execute permissions will do it but if not, also grant modify permissions.

If you want to be extra cautions, you can try just setting security on the .exe and see if that does it.

If things don't work would you (or any other XP-home user) please say exactly what part of the directions were impossible. I'm trying to get enough handle on XP-home security to offer reasonable suggestions but it's tough without having that OS available.

Well Newt tried and sadly failed.
    :(

Went into safe mode as you suggested, and into explorer as admin, rightclicked on folder and chose security, it was there as you expected. Added user to the folders security. Started with read and execute- rebooted (no luck) then modify-rebooted (no luck) so eventually to full controll- rebooted ( no luck ) I had a look under advanced options and even tried changing ownership of the folder to the user but no result. Every time I try to use the program as the user it says the user does not have enough permissions contact admin etc.

Amazing how long it seems to take to boot into safe mode after the 20th time.

    :D

    Any suggestions?

Thanks for that Angel. Coincidently Musicmatch have Just released a new version so I have downloaded that and problem solved.

Newt however thanks too as The limited user has a range of programs now that she was unable to access before. Your idea did work just not on the version of musicmatch I had??

Well I've learnt something else today.

Glad it's working for you now (way to go Angel71) and that the permissions thing has helped.

My guess is the old version had some required files located in other than the application's folder and without permissions for them, she was stuck. Glad they did a release 'cause that's lots easier than trying to track down where/what other file(s) you needed to change.
