I recently added an old 486 with Win95 on it to my LAN and use a monitor switcher to allow both the Win95 and another Win98 machine to use the same monitor. Oddly, when I switch to the win98 machine the screen flickers slightly as if the refresh is off (I haven't changed any settings on that machine), but when I switch to the Win95 it's fine. I've played around with the refresh on the Win98 but it doesn't seem to help (tried 60,70,72,75,80). I've tried the 4 diff ports on the switcher too, but that doesn't make a diff either.

    Thx,

What it could be (but im not sure) is the switch unit. It may have a faulty contact that isnt fully opening or closing and this is causing the prob. If the monitor is ok when you take out the switch and put in straight in2 the back of either machine then its probably the switch.

Another possibility is a grounding probelm where a voltage diffirence occurs between the 2 pcs. This is quite a far try, if all 3 components are plugged in2 the same socket/adaptor etc. i cant see grounding being the cause. I would guess the switch.

One other one is the monitor is not changing when you change the switch. Try putting it off before you switch - switch then put it back on.

    Hope this helps, Stuart.
