I have a CD I use for saving my photos. Everytime I put the CD in, the computer reads it, and freezes up (mouse still moves around, but nothing works - except minimize - and not even that if the minimizing will result in looking at my desktop, or if I have clicked on another action). If I eject the CD everything returns to normal.
It isn't the drive, as all my other CDs work. This all started after my last burning session. Maybe it didn't finish or something, I don't know.

Yes, I am an idiot .. I didn't back up the CD, and it is my only copy. I've had it for over a year, and saved many photos people have sent me during that time.

Is there anyway I can retrieve my photos ?

    Thanks

Hmm, hard to tell... looks like there's something wrong in the CD, but the OS should not seize up.

    1) Do you have separate burner and reader?

If so, you *may* try with a non-windows operating system that runs all from CD.

    - Download and burn Knoppix Linux

    - put your CD in the second CD drive

    - put the Knoppix CD in the 1st CD drive and use it to boot the PC (you may have to tell the BIOS to boot from there)

It should recognize all HDs and CDs, and give you a chance to try and copy your files.

    2) As an alternative, ask someone with a different OS (Mac, Linux, a different Windows version . . .) and see if they can use data recovery tools on your CD - eg. something similar to Drive Rescue.

On my PC, Drive Rescue won't show a CD until it's already mounted - so it can't help with a CD that doesn't mount.

    Thanks.

I will have to try someone with a different operating system cuz my reader and burner are one in the same.

    Thanks again
