I have somethig I have never seen before and wonder if anyone knows how to get rid of it. I just bought a new computer with windows xp home an am not up to speed on all the features. This is what is going on. There is something running in theC:\documents & settings\owner\local settings\temp folder. It filled my hard drive yesterday but I was able to remove almost all of the files and got the space back. The file is JET????.tmp and runs for one to two minutes and then disappears. If I back out of the temp folder and go back to it there it is again with a different name-JET????.tmp the ? being different characters each time. I try to delete it but says in use by another program or user. I have turned off everything that is running and still the same response. I can't find anything about this on any board anywhere. I'm using Norton A/V 2003, not sure how this got in. Anyone with a solution to get rid of it??? Thanks.

The Jet#.tmp files are created by the FAXserve host and work engine services, or some other Service.

Locate Administrative Tools\Services and disable the Fax Server Service.

    MS Article re jet.temp:

Adjust your Services and set up your system do it performs well by only using the Services that you really need. By default, XP comes with 32+ Services loading and running at system start up. Over halfe are completely unneeded and will slow down a system and decrease it's performance.

Here is best Services Guide on www:

Thank You TonyT. As has been my experience with this XP machine, the things that are suggested don't work. I should get an E for effort anyway. I disable the fax and anything else that I thought I didn't need and restarted the puter just to be sure that everything took effect but there is the JETXXXX.tmp still doing its own thing. I can't delete it I have another one in the windows\temp folder (ZLT02aa2.tmp) that changed from yesterday (ZLT07cd2.tmp) that I can't delete, both of these problems say I can't delete the file because some preson or program is using the file. I don't know what to try, but I don't want to see a repeat of yesterday when the whole hard drive was filled. Any more ideas? DonS
