Hi. I've been having kernel32.dll problems whenever I open any movie in any media player (music works just fine, though; it's just the ActiveMovie.exe that has problems). It started out saying "The procedure entry point MakeCriticalSectionGlobal could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll ". Looking through another forum, I found a suggestion to replace it with the kernel32.dl_ from the C:/I386 folder and I did. Now the error has become "The procedure entry point SUnMapLS_IP_EBP_8 could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll "

I really don't know what to do here. I've tried replacing the kernel file with something I downloaded, but I don't think it's taking since the file is Windows Protected. Any suggestions as to what I can do would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I've run the sfc /scannow command like 6 times already. It doesn't find anything wrong.

ActiveMovie? As in related to either installs of Directx, IE, MediaPlayer just to name a few that I know of. Sounds like versionitis is also a likely cause.

    Is this error "constant ".
What changes have you made recently? By changes, I mean updates, upgrades, installs, uninstalls.

In most cases, if you upgrade one of these, you must upgrade all as they may require a newer version of one or all to function properally. Throw in your Graphics and sound card updates as well. If you haven't updated and upgraded, doing so may clear up problem.

And as crazy as this may sound.....
On the flipside, many problems come from buggy installs, unistalls or updates or upgrades.

Point is, you must be aware of what you have or have not done recently prior to the problem.

Running multiple Apps in background, that are known to be incompatible, will produce undesirable problems. Try closing [end task] all except those directly needed for task at hand.

    ==========
    Kernel32 errors are nightmare.

    Hi Mondler,

Do you have a System Restore point prior the problem?

If so, first uninstall any programs installed since that point, re Ann's post which may have caused the problem. At this point, the file is corrupted, uninstalling the offending app will not fix that, I don't think.

Then go back to that prior restore point.

    Regards - Charles

Unfortunately, I believe my System Restore is malfunctioning, too. There seem to be no restore points from before the problem occurred and I can't move back to the prior month.

The problems started without my doing anything extraordinary. First, winamp3 started to malfunction, saying it would not load because DDRAW.DLL was missing. This was just a sudden occurrence, since just a couple of hours ago, I'd been playing music on it without any problems, then I just shut down the computer. The BSOD then appeared and I was told that a ton of my files were crosslinked, which chkdsk fixed. (On that note, I ran chkdsk recently via the Windows Start - Run - chkdsk command and it says that there are problems it won't fix because /F fix is not enabled. Should I enable a fix? How can I do that?) When I started it up again, winamp3 was still malfunctioning. I was told to download DDRAW.DLL from the web, which I did and I installed it. When I tried uninstalling and reinstalling winamp3, it refused to finish installed, because this time there were kernel32 problems. That would have been fine if the problem hadn't extended to all media players, which now report ActiveMovie.exe errors (the 2nd kernel32 one) every time I open a movie.

The error is constant and happens every time I open a movie file, but audio files play without error in WMP9.

I even went to Windows Update after the problem had occurred because I was told that updating DirectX had worked for someone. It didn't work for me. :(

CHKDSK /F should enable it to fix any errors it encounters, if I understood your question right.
