    Hi Lonny,

While removing a network card (or any other card for that matter) will also remove its associated power consumption I'm not sure that a NIC draws that much power to make a significant difference.

Most NICs that I have looked at seem to be in the range of 5W or less. Depending on how "taxed" that power supply is - simply removing the NIC may not provide much relief. On a 200W power supply you are only recovering 2.5% of your peak power. If the P/S is larger than that you are recovering even less.

Are you having some problems that point to the power-supply being overworked?

    Regards,

    ICE

I'm not sure and even if overworked is the correct term.

back about two months ago ,at the peek or our summer when it was the hottest our PC keep shutting down, well once..
I took the case apart and cleaned up again even though it was clean,, the heat sink and also unassembled the BS to clean,,
since it was extremely hot I figured and did leave the case off
as an added precaution pointed a fan at it..
no problems since and case is back together to.
except i notice the power supply fan seams to have to work hard
toward the end of a process.or go slower.

Four example when I have three IE's open and open another
the fan slow's down or seams taxed until that IE completely opens the page,, resources are not the problem as I don't let them decrease below 50%

on the other hand i can play a game that has extensive graphics
with no ill effects, or in other words don't notice the fan getting slower toward the end of a process

remind me what the substance was between the heat sink and the CPU, should I have replaced it.. anyway thats not the problem
during the hot season is the first time i had remove it to clean, prior to that always just cleaning the fan and top of heat sink without removing=== Blah, hard to spit it out..

so yes pulling it does reduce power usage even if it wasn't being used ? though such a small amount it wouldn't help anything correct.
