Hello people in cyberspace, I try not venture far from Hardware if I can help it :-( .

Sister's computer. Not sure if it is a IE or Windows problem (Win 95).
When IE starts the Window appears 2/3 off the screen (maximized). Right clicking on the title bar "Move" is greyed out. Cannot drag (Window is maximized).

I remember a similar post a long time ago, but can't find it now.

Help would be appreciated (as always).

    Matt

    PS Tried Repair, no luck.

    Hi Matt,

    Try this:
After you open IE and the maximized window is offset, hit ALT + SPACEBAR. That should pop-up a small menu. Click on RESTORE. The window will now be normal (UNmaximized). Move the window to the desired location and try maximizing it again.

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks Ski123,
I can get a restore window and move it around. In fact I have stretched it to a full screen size for my sister to use in the mean-time.
Can restore and minimize OK....just maximize has decided to "take a walk ".

    Hi Mattman:

I have not tried this fix myself. I saw it on a forum, and the person with the problem never posted back and said whether it worked or not. With that said --

Run REGEDIT, and go to the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
Click once on MAIN, and in the right-hand panel, find:
    "Window_Placement ", and right-click on it.
    From the menu, click DELETE.

    Close REGEDIT, and restart I.E.

    Hi

Maybe Jerry would post a couple links and instructs for you
If you dont have the latest updates for IE for windows 95

So what is your version again/or hers
there were some exploits/bugs that were corrected ,preventing a web site from opening other IE windows, even outside the viewable screen..

Yes Lonny, some links would be handy if someone has the time. I will look into that area (updates), good point.
Win 95B if I remember correctly and IE 5.5.
IE loads off-screen without being connected to the net, so not a web site problem ??

    To let you know,
Jerry's regedit worked a treat. My carefully prepared backup was unneeded.
My sister was so impressed she has vowed to visit the forum...please hide me! :(

Lonny, due to the fact that I was spurred into action about the spyware programs, I tried to install Spybot and Adaware. Both gave the error:
missing dll -> WS2_32.dll not found.
I'll do some searching, but if anyone knows a source (maybe updates?) then it would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the support guys.

Had you seen this thread yet

still I am not sure what the highest version of IE for win 95 is
that thead explains better than I could.

Once did and done you should have no problems installing SpyBot
Not sure since I haevnt been through it myself
this FAQ even though its for version 1.1 is to my knowledge still
    true FAQ #011

    http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=knowledgebase/faq/faq011
    ==========
There are two possible reasons why Spybot-S&D 1.1 wouldn't run using Windows 95.

The first possible reason (Error message: HHCTRL.OCX is missing) is that you are using an old version of Internet Explorer, thus the needed HTML help components are not installed. Those are available from Microsoft.

The second reason (Error message: WS2_32.DLL is missing) is that you need the Winsock update for Windows 95. That one is also available from Microsoft.

    Win 95 Winsock2 setup
    More information

Both are updates you should make anyway!
    ================
I know I know I dont read the faqs nor the help system either enough so I wont harp on it :) to much

Ahhh... WS2 = Winsock...should have remembered. Knew it looked familiar.

That gives me a great head-start.

    Fantastic Lonny.

    :)
