PS2 Optical mouse led light remains lit after computer shutdown. Will this power draw create any future problems?

Have been three weeks emailing the mobo’s tech support people, flashing the bios, and ensuring that no wake up events are enabled in the bios. Their final determination is that it is the fault of the chipset, not the mobo, and that there is no bios version available to fix it at the moment.

I kind of feel like they’re just blowing me off, but maybe it really is not a bad thing? I just need to know if this power draw could cause any potential damage to the system in the future.

Anyone have any information about this?

    TIA - maureen

Maureen, my optical mouse does the same thing. As long as the main power switch on the back of the computer is left "ON" there is still power to the mouse and some of the other peripherals.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but when Windows shuts down it does not totally power off the computer, but only "puts it to sleep" by shutting down the hard drive(s) fans and some of the internal workings. If you had the cover off you may see a small led light on the M/B still on if your M/B is so equipped.

In my case, after Windows shuts the system down, I turn off the power at the power strip which shuts off all power to the system, monitor, speakers and mouse. I just prefer this more as a safety measure as we live in a rural area where lightning and/or power outages/brownouts are not unknown.

I don't think you will do any harm leaving it on if you so choose.

    Hope this helps.:)

I've heard this many times before. My optical mouse does it too. If I bump the computer desk while in the dark, the mouse will glow brightly red.

    I actually think it's kinda cool! :p
