I am unable to open a web page in a second browser window in ie6. This is recent but I cannot think of any program that may have caused it. I have tried closing all other programs including my firewall and have no pop-up blockers etc. The second browser opens but does not load any content. This also stops me from downloading files from Microsoft Windows Update.I have tried an ie6 repair without any change.
Something must have changed the registry - any ideas please.

The information on this page has fixed the problem for me on several different computers.

    Thanks Miz.
The trouble is that I cannot load any links. If I click on a link it just brings up the new browser window and then freezes. It is still posible to close this new window.
Could you give me the full web page address so that I can access it directly.
I reckon to be pretty experianced and have checked every setting I can think of.

    Miz,
I found the site with help of Google. Unfortunately none of the advice worked. Luckily I had a Norton Ghost Image File of about 10 days ago. I restored the windows partition and it now works OK. ( I had tried loading an old registry and also re-installing IE6 - Windows would not allow it!) The only problem I have now is that the computer is very sluggish. Applications load slowly and everthing responds slowly.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help

Sluggishness turned out to be a Norton Ghost Resident Program (GhostStartService.exe) hogging all the CPU. This seems to have sorted itself out now and I am up to ful speed again.I will never know what caused the original problem in IE6.
