Was the "crash" a hard drive failure?

If you have both drives in the PC with the new XP drive as master and the old one as slave (jumper settings) and boot up, exactly what happens?

I have xp on both disks but on startup only xp c:\ shows up..
I can reach d:\ when pc is sterted but cant get in to my files in the administrator catalog. I guess the only way to solve the problem is trying to install d:\ as master and reinstall xp..
Tried this but disk will not boot.. The only solution xp gave me was to format the disk and install. Then i destroy my files..

By the way.. Crash was because of virus. The disk is ok i think...
Maybe it is a virus in boot sector or masterboot???

    administrator locked catalog

That doesn't ring any bells for me.

What specific error are you getting when you try to access the problem drive?

Have you tried booting to the recovery console and running fixmbr on the problem drive?

I have tried recovery console and runned fixmbr. when i try to install i get an option to format the disk or if i choose to install xp i get a message that cannot install because there is no drive to install on. the disk is active i think. if i choose delete partition and set up a new i guess all data will be deleted..

Yes it would and I don't think things are to that point yet.

Do I understand you were able to get to the recovery console and did run fixmbr?

If so, try going back to the recovery console and try the dir command to see if you are able to list files from the problem drive. If you can, the drive is still alive and should be fixable.

Also, you still didn't say where you were seeing the "administrator locked catalog" error/problem.
