File security, access rights etc.

    Ok, i recently installed windows 2000, and set up users accounts - myself as admin. what i want to do is block other users from accessing my work. when i go to properties on a folder, in windows 2000, a security tab shud be available, but it isnt ther on mine??? wen i installed win2000 i didn't convert my drive to NT, cud this be the problem, if so how can i convert it without formatting??

    Can sum1 please help

    i didn't convert my drive to NT

    That would be my guess.

    ok, but do u still have access to the security tab in the folder/file properties?

    The NTFS conversion is a good idea. You have security with FAT32 but lots more options with NTFS.

    Once you get the conversion done, you'll still need to do a little work to secure your files/folders though.

    If you are the only member of the Administrator group and the other users are only members of the Users group, they won't be able to make system/OS modifications and can pretty much only change the PC settings that apply strictly to their account.

    Data is another matter though. To keep anyone else from seeing it, you'll need to go into security for the files or folders and under properties~security, remove any groups and users other than yourself.

    Please DO NOT use the Deny settings to deny users access or you'll probably lock yourself out as well.

    Please DO NOT remove users from any folders except your personal data folders. For instance, if you remove them from Program Files, they won't be able to do anything. Not run programs or anything else.
