    When I start the printer, and see that it is using too much ink, What is the best way to stop it? If I push the stop button at the top, it just keeps on printing. The only way I know to stop it is to push the buttons on the printer.
    Printer= HP 697C

    When you print you should see a printer icon in your system tray in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Double click the icon to open, select the print job that you want to cancel then click on "Documents" from the menu bar then click on "Cancel" in the drop down list. This should stop the print job.

    I don't have an HP printer, but in case you don't see the word CANCEL anywhere, look for the word PURGE document. This is how I stopped printing jobs on my Epson. Not sure how my Lexmark works yet. Just got it!

    Good luck.

    :)

    Start>Settings>Control Panel>Printers

    You should see your printer listed there. Click on it, Then, in the printer pop-up window, click:

    Cancel Printing.

    This takes too long.
    Above in the second line, RIGHT CLICK on your printer and select 'create shortcut'. This will put a shortcut on your desktop.

    If you have your 'Quick Launch' enabled, you can drag this shortcut to the quick launch where is will be visible if your desktop is covered with another screen.

    Click below to get graphic representation. Then click 'full view'.

    The printer has memory to buffer the print task, so even when you use one of the posted suggestions, it will finish printing the data in it's buffer. The best method I've found is to simply lift the printer's cover. Printing stops immediately and a window pops up with the option to cancel the print job.

    I Like RichC's Instructions

    Thanks to you all. I appreciate this website. It is very helpful.
    Thanks again!

    P.S. Maybe I will learn someday to post in the correct forum. Right now I have a problem distinguishing whether I have a hardware or a software problem.
