Ever since windows 98 came out, I have never ben even remotely interested in useing Active desktop.

I am intreged by it now and I think I want to try it. Years a go I heard lots of bad things about it. I would like to hear form people who've had experence useing active desktop, both good and bad. Thanks, Chris.

Chris--I tried it when I first started to use a PC. Lots of BSOD's, but maybe my lack of knowledge was partly to blame. I uninstalled it. I believe it uses quite a bit of your resources.
In any event, I think MS discontinued it after Win98. That might tell you something. (There are other, but third party, info streaming programs now.)
And here is what Google found
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...="Active+desktop"+problems&btnG=Google+Search

Ok, that kind of answers my questions. I HATE stuff that takes up lots of system resorces. The page I use as my home page has lots of links I like but takes so long to load. I wanted to have it as my desktop and use a fast loader as my browser. Thanks for replying. Chris.

I believe the original purpose of Active Desktop was to have streaming data updates delivered straight to the Desktop, more like an old fashioned ticker tape. Stock reports, latest news. It never really took off, and I believe your options on this would be limited.
And it does use a lot of your resources, IE can deliver the same thing using less.
