Whenever I start my computer I get an error message that says,

"MSSvc.EXE encountered a problem and needed to close "

If I send a report to MS and read the details it says it's related to Blaster Virus. I've followed their instructions to take care of it but still keep getting the message.
Do you think I still have it and what do you all suggest I handle it?

I am running Win XP Pro

Search Google - there a number of early hits which may be relevant to your problem.

Assume you ran the Blaster Worm removal tool appropriate to your flavour of antivirus?

Yup. Norton. Do you think that message is caused by blaster?

A search on Symantec under viruses comes up with zilch for mssve.exe so it would appear unlikely that Blaster worm is involved - or any virus for that matter.

Is mssve.exe actually on your PC? - not on mine, also XP Pro.

Have you checked out the Google hits?

I have this same problem. I have looked everywhere and can't find anything on this problem. The google hits I found (2) were no help. Two files are listed as possible problems in my pc and I can't find the listed files either. I went to microsoft support and typed in MSSvc.EXE and it came up with no results. I also cleaned the registry with a reg cleaner program, no help. I did find a file named MSSvc.EXE.hdmp in a deleted file list, that is listed as "type of file" HDMP and restored it, but it still will not boot without displaying the error message. Only lead I have so far, is this may be associated with some program called" stealthdisk" which does not show up anywhere in my pc.

This is an obscure version of MSBlaster....

Also particulary hard to get rid off. You can search your registry for MSSvc.EXE, and delete all references to it, but from what I've read, this version will also remove Administrative access to your Services profile: Administrative Tools > Services, and it seems that you only be able to fix this with a reinstall.

I think the best option is to reinstall Windows XP.

Arie - a repair install, reinstall over existing, or slick it and start over?

You could try a repair, but me I will always advocate a complete format/reinstall after being infected with a virus, since you NEVER will know what other back-door programs where dropped in your system...
