I guess there's a quite a few new virus problems these days...

I keep getting quite a few emails sent to me with different attachments and different messages. They'll either have "undelivered mail user unknown" or similar messages in the subject line. I'm also getting various emails that state different things like "You sent potentially unsafe content: Re: Wicked screensaver "... this email message will have an email addreess shown which my pc supposedly sent the virus to, but which I am not familiar with. And lastly, I keep getting that blasted phoney MS email that says things like "Last Microsoft Critical Patch ".

I'd really like to stop all these from poring in, and I keep checking to make sure I don't have a virus on my pc. I've ran 2 different AV program scans (Norton's AV 2001 and Trend Micro's PC-Cillin) on all of my computers and nothing is found on any of them... I'm really getting sick of this virus ****... anyone of you able to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

One thing that might help at least a little bit.

Send every one on your Address list a nice but FIRM note saying. "GET YOUR AV Software up to date and RUN IT at all times.

This is one way to get to you, Someone that has your address does not have a well protected machine.

I believe I am correct abou that.

Next best thing is to get MailWasher to prescreen your mail.

    Be back in a bit

    MailWasher

And it dies not hurt to add Benign to the list of running Items either.

You can not stop it completely but can at least slow it down.

All of the sudden I am getting bombarded with **** too. But I delete it right off of the server with MailWasher.

My most recent email had an attachment called "eczgo.exe" and it said Undeliverable to pnqcpwt@yahoo.com in the email body, "undelivered mail user unknown" in the subject line.

The advice BB gave you is good. Here's a quick version of what is happening:

Person X isn't running up-to-date AV software and gets infected by a virus that does it's own emailing from the infected PC (maybe by building a little email sending applet).

Virus X is clever and uses a random address from Person X's address book as the address in the From line when sending these infected emails.

One such email went From: Person N (you) to a bad address. The mail server politely sent it back to the From address with a note that it was undeliverable.

Unless you can luck on to the identity of Person X (and it won't be in any if the email header info) you can't stop this from happening.

There will also probably be a couple or three folks fussing at you for sending them infected email.
