My friend has XP pro installed on a gigabyte motherboard with everything on board (Sound, Video etc).
Now Im sure there's a simple solution but its got me.

When the computer is turned off and the phone rings the computer starts up. Simple... I thought... the BIOS needs a small change but I find the wakes on modem setting is already disabled.

Are there any other places where a setting could be adjusted?

    Thanks guys

I don't have an XP box handy but it seems that in the modem/properties/ advanced tab there is something there about provision for a fax connection

but don't hold me to it....

    Hi G

Check that other "wake on" settings are disabled. I have at least 5 on my Gigabyte system.

The board may have a Wake on LAN/Modem connector. A lead/cable that connects the LAN card/modem to the motherboard and I am pretty sure that this overrides any BIOS setting. Just remove the lead.
