I have Windows XP on my computer and I use Notepad to make short one-page personal notes to myself on various matters. But when I print out a Note the printout shows what I named the file and on the bottom of the printout it states "Page 1 ". How can I avoid the printout showing the name of my file and showing "Page 1 ". Thank you very much.

In Notepad, click file>page setup. Where it says header, remove the &f. Where it says footer remove the Page &p. If this sounds cryptic take a look and you'll see what I mean.

To Zander: Thank you for your message. It worked. I have another question. How do you change margins in Notepad? Thank you.

File > Page Setup - just above where you discarded the header/footer info.

To PeteC: Thank you for your message. I changed the left margin from 0.75 (the default) to 2.25, and I changed the right margin from 0.75 (the default) to 2.25, and the margins did not change. Why did the margins not change? Thank you.

abx - I just played with my notepad a little. Changed the margins. I do have word wrap enabled.

When I type, the text goes from one side of the window to the other before the line wraps. No matter about margin settings.

But when I print a document, it prints with the margin settings I made.

Is this possibly what is happening with you?

Another thought for you. Notepad is a fairly limited applet. If you use it very much, you might be better served with one having more features. I've used NoteTab Lite (free) for quite a while and almost never mess with the regular windows notepad. Take a look at http://www.notetab.com/ and maybe download the lite version to try.

There are quite a few free notepad replacement apps available so if you don't like that one, you can try a couple dozen of the others.

To Newt: Thank you for the message. You are right. When I print, it prints with the margin settings I made. Also, I downloaded NoteTab Lite and will use it to see how it works. Thanks again.

Would using WordPad work better for your needs? I think every computer has it. It has more options to play with than NotePad. Just throwing in my 2 ¢ worth.

    :)
