Old PC blew, so got new one....transferred all old files and reinstalled all programs...but my OE will not send emails it will receive emails...but when trying to send I keep getting an error message saying:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems or a long period of inactivity.

Can anyone give some insight on how to fix this problem...many thanks in advance.

Hi Teresa - welcome to the Board :)

This could be a problem at your ISP, but I rather doubt it if it is ongoing for a few days.

As it's a new PC I guess you transferred your OE accounts to the new one - did you manage to export your accounts from the old PC and import into the new? - if so your account settings should be OK.

Go Tools > Accounts > Highlight your default account (if more than 1) > Properties > Servers and check the server address for outgoing mail - it is possible that this is incorrect.

If you don't know the server addresses they should be available on your ISP web site.

If this doesn't resolve the problem - post back

Some Anti-virus software programs will change your mail settings to local host. Check your account information and verify your settings.
Sometimes an account can become corrupt. You can also try deleting and recreating your account.

If you have a cable modem, you could try to force your modem, too. Unplug it, reboot, and plug it in again when you see the Windows splash screen. I have had this problem before, also, and called my ISP. They did something on their end "reset my account" and all was well again.

    OE and AOL

Thanks to you all for the helpful replies....but I guess I have found my problem....AOL is my server!!

Couple of things that bother me...

one is...I have used AOL for four years and I have never had any trouble with sending my emails from OE until I had to get new processor. So this I don't understand, unless there is a way to over ride AOL.

Well I did find a way to get AOL to work with OE and that is to download a program called e-netbot, but there is a 19.95 charge per month for this...and I of course do not want to do this.

So...my question now is.....Is there a loop hole to use OE with AOL or should I just change my mail client for my web site to Netscape or to Whatever....??? What is the best route to go????
Thank you all so much for your help. Teresa

Teresa - your profile doesn't say where you are located - here in the UK there are many ISP's which charge nothing to be a member, we simply pay for the phone calls, either 'Pay as you go' or a one off payment for, in my case, 150 hrs/month on line via dial up or a larger figure for Broadband. The ISP makes it's money from a share of the cost of the phone calls.

There is no way that I want the glitz and glamour (?) of something like AOL - or their 'services'. All I want is a means to use OE and IR - period :)

In dealing with email/browser problems AOL comes out top of the pile - IMO - for restrictive practices and pure cussedness.

    Go elsewhere.

Here in USA we call AOL "AOHell" and experienced computer users avoid them like the plague. Unless you have no choice because of geographical circumstances, try to find another ISP. AOL markets themselves as being easy to use, but they severely limit your choices and to make you the target of their specific advertising through their advanced spy technology. Unless you have no other alternatives, I suggest dumping them and finding an ISP that better suits your needs. JMO

    OE and dump AOL

I have heard it for years....as well as experienced the nightmares over and over with AOL!!! But yet I have kept hanging on...I am in the WASH.,DC area, so yes I have plenty of other choices for ISP.

I guess laziness kept me from switching ISP's....now that alot of my work is on the computer everyday......I am getting out of this nightmare...........I am switching ISP's!!

    Thank you for your expertise!!!

I would like to add.....I was so glad to run across this website. I don't know if any of you ever get the appreciation you deserve, but I am here to say....I Thank you very much for your expert advice as well as the time it took for you to reply!!!! There is no where I know of on the net to get this kind of helpful info and so quickly!!! Have a GREAT DAY, you have certainly made mine!! Thanks again, Teresa B. :)

Where at in DC? I used to live in Rockville, MD. I liked the cultural choices, but the place was full of traffic and lawyers! :D
