I have a possible virus, but I don't know how to get rid of it...here's my story:

Last night (9/28/03), while I was surfing the net, for some reason my computer restarted all by itself. Earlier that day my computer was acting up, it's hard to explain but, sometimes when I minimize windows you can see little lines on the screen where the window was minimizing. So I decided to scan my computer using AVG Anti-Virus System, when it was done it said it found 4 Viruses and healed them all, so I thought the problem would be over. Then as I said, later that night while I was surfing the net, the computer restarted all by itself. So then the same night I went to the Yahoo! Chat Help and someone suggested to go to House Call and online virus scanner (where i've been before), so today (9/29/03) I went to House Call but while it was loading the "Blue Screen Of Death" as they call it appeared and I pressed "any key'' and it brought me back to my desktop but I was kicked off the internet. I don't know what else to do, someone said it was a Blaster Worm, but that was before I told them I had Windows ME, so they discarded the Blaster Worm idea. I'll try House Call again but I don't know if it will kick me offline, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks again!

u must have in consideration that the virus u had before the removel could have let some damage to your operating system, in this case is hard to figured out how to fixe the damage....

But before u think of re-installing the OS, try to discover the name of the virus u could have on your computer and them goto www.norton.com ( u don't need to have the norton anti-virus installed) and do a search with the name of the virus, u should find removel instructions and possible removel tools...

I forgot to also add that, Yesterday (9/28/03), I think I had to restart my computer by Ctrl+Alt+Delete. but when my computer came back on it looked like it was in Safe Mode but with out the "Safe Mode" and it came up trying to search for new hardware and talking about the Registry. I tried restarting again, but the So called "safe mode" look came back and kept on looking for new hardware, I tried restarting over and over and finally after a couple times of restarting it it came back to normal... Now, I don't know if that was before or after I used the AVG Anti-Virus Scanner.

    EDIT

ALSO, I checked the AVG and it saved what kind of Virus was healed and the name is "Trojan horse BackDoor.Apdoor.S and Trojan horse Backdoor.Apdoor.R" I said in my first post AVG found 4 Viruses and it was two of the "Trojan horse BackDoor.Apdoor.S" and two of the "Trojan horse Backdoor.Apdoor.R "

If I remember correctly ME has System Restore points similiar to XP.

If so they must be disposed BEFORE the cleaning process Other wise the Virus may come back.

Also if they do exist the cleaning tool may also attempt to clean them rendering them useless and rather dangerous to use.

I may be only guessing as I only had ME for a few days. But I do seem to remember about the restore points.

Thanks everyone, I took all your advice about disabling the system restore and I used the online virus scan (house call) but no viruses were found...And my computer acted up again before I took your advice.... :(
