    Hey All, Great site!!!

I have a (now dead) Compaq 2701US - After a fan/PSU/heatsink meltdown (well documented on HP community website) I thought I had a fan problem fixed - but the guy doing the repair faqed it up by shorting out my MB - That said, it was out of warranty, and like an idiot, bought another CPQ 2525 (which is really an HP box) based on features and price.

The unit is only 2 months old - and have barely loaded any new programs from what the basic OEM had pre-installed - THAT SAID, this 2.4ghz with double the memory runs SLOWER than my old 1.03ghz did?? W.T.F? (sorry Mr. Mod - but it deserves that comment)

When speaking with CPQ err HP - they tell me "performance is not about the CPU chip" and agree to a point...

Q is, I am a speed/effeciancy junkie - and keep my systems "clean" - I mean I try to not load many TSR's - and have even benchmarked this unit with Intel and other like programs - and while it benches out "ok" - It just doesn't run as well/fast as my old box (plus the speakers BLOW in this new "Presario/HP" vs my old JBL OEM system...) Can you tell I am not a happy camper with HP messing with the Presatio line?? (Ex-Compaq guy that voted AGAINST the merger) - LOL had to throw some "politics" in there as well...

Anyway, I digress... Any thoughts on how to improve performance?? I searched "CPU speeds and issues" and there's a lot on the site, but nothing I could find down these lines... So my apologies if this has already been beat to death somewhere else - but such is life...

Would welcome and thoughts, benchmarking tools and suggestions!!! :)

    Cheers,

    Boomer  :p :p

Pretty much a hardware thing Boomer69 and some of the hardware folks never look in this section so I'm moving it to hardware.

Oh - and welcome to the forum. :D

Well - thanks for pointing out the obvious :)

But I did come on here to get technical advice - for what is done, is done - and obviously Compaq/HP will never get another dime from me again -

That said, why don't you place your neck on the block and what would YOU recommend Hmmm?

Hell, they all have Intel/AMD guts and NEC screens.. So it should be interesting to hear who you think makes a decent laptop that is 5 stars all the way around (outside of Toshiba)

    Boomer:rolleyes:
