System Restore NOT working properly

RE-SYSTEM RESTORE

Hi,Charlesvar,I find that my system restore creates a checkpoint every other day and I am on my pc every day it may be due to the fact that I have reduced the amount of allocated space that it only makes checkpoints at these intervals as sometimes I wish it would make them more often as supposedly lost space with no apparent reason why returns after two disk cleanups removing all but the most recent backup (checkpoint) as thats the only one I am interested in.Regards pcfanatic2.

 

Ok now about a new angle.

When checking one day I saw 5 or 6 restore points.

I did NOTHING as far as making changes, adding or removing anything.

Next day All Restore points were GONE Except one that I had made myself.

And I am seeing more and more the point proven that XP System Restore seems to be very system specific as to whether it works as designed or not.

We all know what it is supposed to do. And many of us also know that it may not do what it is supposed to. So therefore it bears watching.

Bottom line again.

I never have and never will trust it. It seems to have its own ways no matter how we set it.

I did not always trust Scanregistry in 98SE either. Even though it was more reliable. It also failed a time or two.

Well, I was in town today, so I checked on 2 other computers running XP. Like mine, both have created regular restore points at approx. 24 hour intervals. Then I stopped at another sis in law who has an XP comp that does NOT make regular points (and I can't figure out why) and it still isn't. I emailed a screencap of my Admin Services and was able to look at hers and mine side by side- they are set the same. So the mystery remains...why do some comps not make restore points? BTW, hers is an Athlon T-bird like mine, almost identical except she has a diff mobo. Hmmm... will let you know if I figure anything out.

If you want to change SR intervals, the following is from my manual: XP Inside/OUT by Bott & Siechert

Cut this figure in half, to 43,200, if you want to save restore points twice a day; triple it, to 259,200, if you want restore points created every three days.

EDIT: The number of days that SR keeps restore points can be adjusted as well.

But if it is making RPs as it should I would not mess with it at all.
