If you know the password for a user account, you should be able to log on and change it to a blank (nothing).

If you know the admin password, you can set the PC to "autologon" and it will put in the username/password for you so you don't have to mess with logging on yourself.

If you don't know any passwords (so you cannot get on the PC at all) then you won't get any help here. See Rule #6.

    No problem.

My best suggestion to you at this point is to blow the whole thing away and get a fresh start with passwords you know.

It is quite possible (based on his parting comment and the mood several of mine were in when they moved out) that there are some hidden "gotcha" items inside.

Just insert the W2K CD, boot, and let it start from the CD. Then format and get a clean system.

Are you talking about the windows password or the computer password?

    Keith

P.S. Regarding Rule #6, what am I not allowed to say?

keithki - Rule #6 just means you can't offer suggestions about defeating password protection. BIOS, OS, App passwords, parental controls, etc.

trout - when you first turn on your PC there will be an option to change the BIOS settings (worded differently on various systems). Select that and you should find a section dealing with boot device order.

The usual is 1) floppy 2) hard drive 3) CD (at least on newer systems that offer an option to boot from CD).

Change that so CD is first choice and you should be able to boot from the CD.

windows pass word.. but the admin is enabled so i cant make a new user or log on because my son has the passwords

when i start up it goes to windows log in ,it will not open windows or desk top with out it , so on start up i click f2 to enter the bios, there i go throw the pages and on page 7 it tells me the configurre set up is pass protected also, my son takes computers in college, so he knows all the tricks

there is no floppy on the labtop, and the order is floppy, hard drive,cd.... maybe i need to add a floppy and try to boot windows 2000 cd that way.. if i could only tell what floppy is compatable with the system

trout - if the thing requires a password to get in and change the BIOS settings, any good PC repair shop can deal with that and let you in.

The problem with this whole internet thing and the reason for lots of the rules is there is absolutely no way to tell if you are a father whose son has a strange sense of humor or some kid trying to crack his way into Dad's PC.

I know what I'd do if it were me but I'm a mean old buzzard who raised a bunch of kids.
