    Hello,
I just got a new laptop today with XP Home installed, and after using win98 since its inception I am confused. I have everything as "Classic" trying to help it look the same. Now the question: when I right click on the "start" button and click on "open" the items I have on the start menu and "programs" appears, when I double click on "programs" not all of my installed programs appear, and i used to be able to move things around here and put different programs in different folders. Any ideas? Just one user--me is all I want!
    Thanks--Gene

Right click the start button....choose explore.
Look for the line that says Program Files.
    I think that's what you're looking for?

Genestoy: I prefer the Classic view, too.

When you right-click on Start and then Open, you can create new folders in that window and drag and drop whatever is available into either the new folders or the old ones already there .

Instead of right-clicking on Start, though, you can left-click and then move your cursor to Programs. Everything you have should appear there, either immediately or by moving your cursor over an item and seeing a new window pop open.

Get back to us if you still can't get what you want.

    Daizy,
What I see is three "users" an "All Users ", "Default User" and a "Valued Customer ". All with the same sub-folders under them. How do I get rid of all but one? It appears some of my programs have went under different ones?

    Bobbo,
Not all the programs I have installed are appearing when I do the right click and it appears they went to another one of the "users ".

    Are you under administrator?

If you click on the all users they'll most likely all be there. Mine is the same as yours. Not all of them show under my user name. They are all there however, under all users. If you want quick access to the all users folder, right click on the desktop and choose "new folder ". In the command line type the path to the all users\start menu\programs folder. This shortcut should open in that folder. If you don't want it on your desktop, drag it to the quick launch bar where it'll be readily available.

    Daizy,
Yes, I think I am under administrator.

    Zander,
That is the problem, not all the programs/folders are under "All Users ", some are there some are under "Valued Customer ", does not appear that anything has gone under "Default User ".

Well, I have been playing with it and I can accomplish what I want by dragging the program/folder to the desktop from the start/programs pop up and then dragging them to the appropriate folder when I right click on the "start" menu then "open" then "programs ". Don't know why it can't be as easy as win98.
