    Hello John,

Look in your Hosts file, see if its being blocked. A lot of that is happening lately.

    Regards - Charles

Already looked in hosts file, nothing there that indicates it being blocked. Contents of hosts file below:

127.0.0.1 pop3.norton.antivirus # Added by Norton AntiVirus for e-Mail scanning
127.0.0.1 pop3.spa.norton.antivirus # Added by Norton AntiVirus for e-Mail scanning

    Any other thoughts?

Hi again Charles: No luck with either of those URL's. All I get is the generic:

    "The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. "

I have checked all the browers settings, no changes since I was able to connect to sypwareinfo. Also checked Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster, Hijack This and Ad-Aware to see if something there was blocking the URL. Nothing obvious or even not obvious.

Turned off Norton E-mail scan, renamed the hosts file re-started and tried accessing spywareinfo, still no luck.

Well I guess I will have to live with it until something not obvious pops up and say's "I am the problem "

No big deal, just one of those things that bugs you until you find out what is causing it.

For now will just have to go to a 3rd party download for Hijack updates.

    Thanks.

    Hello
"Turned off Norton E-mail scan, renamed the hosts file re-started and tried accessing spywareinfo, still no luck" "
Clear IE's cache and delete any of there cookies.

Did you look to see if the hosts file was automaticaly created again.
    try these URL's
These addresses are immune to HOSTS file hijacks.
    http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/
    http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip
    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

If no go it could be that your isp is blocking them
    Domain servers in listed order:
    NS34A.DIXIESYS.COM
    NS34B.DIXIESYS.COM

Hi Lonny, thanks for your tips:

Tried the links you posted, no luck. Also tried the link at the bottom of your post, again no luck.

No, the hosts file wasn't re-created after I renamed and rebooted. (Have since re-renamed the original back).

Cleared the TIF's and looked for "spywareinfo" cookies. There were none.

Could be that the ISP is blocking the site, but I doubt it. They have never blocked one before that I know of. Will try to contact them to see if this is so. Also will contact another user on the same ISP to see if they are having the same problem.

    Lonny:

Had a look at the thread on net-integration. Yes seems to be the same problem. Tried pinging 216.180.252.218 but timed out same as the n-i thread.

Just heard back from my brother who also uses the same ISP (telus.net) and he has no trouble connecting with spywareinfo.com. He has DSL and I have dial-up (we live in different areas of British Columbia) but if the ISP was blocking, it shouldn't make a difference.

Well, guess I will just have to sit on this one for a while  and see if something else shows up to give a hint of what's going (or not going) on.

Will also keep an eye on the n-i thread for any further info.

    Thanks for your input.

    Update on this thread

After being unable to connect to www.spywareinfo.com and any of the spywareinfo forums/sites etc, and Tomcyote sites since last September or August, I can now connect to them. Guess it had something to do with the recovery from the DOS attacks on those sites, although that occured long after September.

Maybe had something to do with my trip to California the last three weeks, repayment for boosting the CA economy, wow, what gas prices!!!

    Go figure!!

Anyway, problem solved, though not by any of my doing. :D

    Hi John,

*Anyway, problem solved, though not by any of my doing*

The Universe changed :) A great many problems are solved that way.

    SWI is using different servers/software.

    Regards - Charles

Hmmm! I wonder if that means I will lose the connection again if they revert to the original servers??? Hope not!!
