What does this mean: (Win98 machine)
Your motherboard is using an ALi, SiS or VIA series of chipset. We strongly recommend you to install the IDE or bus master driver that comes with your motherboard and enable the DMA mode for accessing your DVD-ROM. Not enabling DMA mode or using an improper IDE driver might either degrade the performance of PowerDVD or even prevent PowerDVD from properly executing. For more information about the IDE driver, please visit the web site of your motherboard vendor.

I went into the diagnostics of the PowerDVD drive and the above message appeared. VIA chipset w/Win98 machine. Should changes be made in the BIOS? (BTW, NO Sound)

    In the manual:
    OnChip IDE Function
    OnChip IDE Channel 10 enabled
    OnCHIP IDE Channel 11 enabled
    Primary master UDMA auto
    primary slave UDMA auto
    Secondary master UDMA auto
    Secondary Slave UDMA auto

    OnChip DEVICE Function
    OnChip USB enabled
    USB Keyboard support disabled (uh-oh!)
Onchip Audio function (press enter -- what does that mean?)
    AMR Modem device Auto

    OnChip Audio Function
    AC97 Sound Device enabled
    Sound Blaster Disabled
    Game Port enabled

From the above should I be changing some devices in the Bios?
I have NO sound from the CD ROM/DVD when I play it.

A special cable must be connected from your cd/dvd device to the audio card. If this cable is not present, then you will never be able to listen audio CDs. Remove the cover and see, if the cable exists.

    After a week's wrangling I bought a new SC

I went through all the troubleshooting moves from A to Z and finally concluded the SC was busted.
