Windows 98 has given me problems for a whole week now, today it died:( The problems I am having is when I start up I get this message Can not find a device file that may be needed to run windows or a windows application. The windows registry or SYSTEM. INI file refers to this device file but the device file no longer exists. If you deleted this file on purpose try unistalling the assiciated application using its unistall or setup program. If you still want to use the application assoicated with this device file tryreinstalling that apllication to replace the missing file

and then this vsdata 95.vxd. The only thing I unistalled lately was some type of spykeeper, and this is when I started getting this message. I also have DSL service so I'm not sure if it's the DSL or something with wrong with windows. Any Help!

    Thanks

With 98 along with the Accepted Answer on the link provided by KevinSaul, read the post directly below it.
If you have Zone Alarm installed, you are missing one of it's files, vsdata95.vxd is the one. Reinstall it. That file coming up missing, and you did not delete it, and ZA is still installed, I recommend the following links, as something may not want you to have a working firewall.
    Housecall, online AV scan
    Online Trojan Scan

If ZA is not installed, do the below.
To get into the registry, Start\Run, type in Regedit.

On the below Key, you would be only deleting the VSDATA95 entry on the left side of Regedit. If this Key is not there, don't worry about it.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VSDATA95

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs
On the above Key, what you are looking for to delete is on the right side of Regedit. It will say "c:\windows\System\vsdata95.vxd ", you want that entire line gone, leave the other lines there.
