I'm looking for a good program, for commercial use, to prevent spyware and similar progrmas from getting in. We are Using McAfee for Anti-virus. What is out there, and what seems to work best? And can I download it?

Just a personal choice on virus protection/spyware...get rid of McAfee and get a decent virus scanner.

Try a search here or on the web for Ad-aware from lavasoft. Ad-aware's smart scan will remove most spyware safely for users who are not confident with deleting registry entries. It may cause some programs to stop working, however you DO NOt really want them.

Spy bot will find more than Ad-aware, but is not for new users as it will allow you to do a lot of damage should you decide to delete anything found by spy bot.

Thanx guys, I'll check them out!

rcerrato, perhaps you prefer Norton, with it's 5 meg update, printer conflicts, and missed viruses? Persobnally I'll stick with what works, and McAfee works.

Ryder - glad to hear McAfee works for you. It has proven a major problem for lots of us but if it's doing well for you, certainly stick with it.

If it ever does present you with problems, you might want to consider switching. If your We is a corporate network, you might have good luck with Trend Micro. You load a package on a server to protect servers and another package to protect workstations and it's pretty much automatic from there. Good logs and good remote AV administration. We switched from McAfee corporate to Trend corporate about a year ago and at that time, there was simply no question which had the better remote management tools.

If We is home or a small network, AVG has good press on here from quite a few folks. The free version is good but according to at least one regular, the version you buy is cheap and has lots of additional and useful features.

Spyware - There are quite a few spyware watcher/blocker apps out there. For myself, once I cleaned up with ad-aware and spybot then ran the immunize feature on spybot, I rarely get the stuff any more. I still check several times a week but usually go for a week or two without either app finding any spyware on my system.

Glad to hear someone got McAfee to work. Personally I don't have the time to make that or Norton actually work.
