After installing and uninstalling Outlook 97 (not Express) I can no longer click on "mailto" internet shortcuts and send e-mail. The message says that it can't find a program to use to do it with. I went into IE5.0 Properties and under the Programs tab there is nothing to select for e-mail.

Anybody know how I can Outlook Express back in that drop-down window. My other PCs have it but now that I've used Outlook it's gone!

Open Outlook Express, click on TOOLS, OPTIONS. On the GENERAL Tab near the bottom of the screen click on "This Application is the Default Mail Program" - Make Default.

    Hope this helps. :)

Rod, I tried to do exactly what you suggested but every time I clicked on the "Make Default" button and then Apply and OK, it would just revert to "NOT your default Mail application ". Even reboots had no effect. I then uninstalled Outlook and I still could not make OE my default Mail client!!! I then uninstalled OE and reinstalled it and everything was set up perfectly when I went in to look - "internet MailTos" are working just fine now.

The poison that was Outlook has been expunged from my system! Thanks a ton, Rod - I think your suggestions got me thinking in the right direction!
