I have installed Q822603 & Q331488 OK today, but Q822350 and Q818857 will not install - after saved download and clicking "open" I get a message saying IE6 SP1 must be installed. I click on "OK" and just exit the install. I'm at IE6 Version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633 with listed Update versions of SP1; Q813489; Q330994; Q818529; Q816506; Q822925; Q331488 . Is it correct not to be able to install the Q822350 and Q818857 fixes? SHould Microsoft be providing a fix for my level?

chessfractal--Please consider asking your question again. The title and the first sentence do not say the same things. And 822350, for example, does not exist as a MSKB or Security Bulletin. 818857 is a new fix that MS recommends be used only if you have the specific problem. Note however, that MS volunteers free email support for this and other Windows Update problems.
Are you sure all these updates are for your versions of Windows/IE?
I do not have WinXP but I see that the IE version on your PC could be "sp2" (6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2). If that is the case, the message you are getting is correct, since you do not have SP1, but rather a later version! Microspeak is difficult sometimes.

I regret my title error; it should have referred to Q822350 (referenced by http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822350 ) and Q818857 as not installable. I'll not attempt to edit the title for those following it as it stands. The text is correct.

    Hello guys!

As I´ve understood it, updates containing SP2 in their designation will be included in Windows XP SP2.

Currently SP1 is the only SP that has been released for XP and I believe that goes for IE6 as well.

    Hoping that I´m not wrong,
    Christer

chessfractal--Forgive me. There is an MSKB 822350 . I guess it is so new that my usual ways of searching for an MSKB did not work.
Anyway, I see, once again, that it is for a very specific problem. And MS implies that it may not work and offers help for free.
    You might try the help.
    Sorry I can not help.
Christer--Have no clue since I run Win98. Just saw the reference to sp2 in the version number. In the past MS has produced error messages saying "you do not have version such and such installed ", which while true, was true because a later version was installed!!

I´m almost sure (99%) that a hotfix with SP2 in the designation will be included in the future release of Win XP SP2.

However, I found an interesting article on Dual-Mode Hotfix Packages for Windows XP .
It seems like SP1 denotes a hotfix version deployed to WinXP RTM and SP2 denotes a hotfix version deployed to WinXP SP1.
