AFAIK Omnipage Pro scans and offers to save an image of the page - it is not a document and cannot be saved as such.

To save the page as a Word doc you need to use OCR - Optical Character Recognition software which will scan an editable copy of the page - save as a Word doc if you so wish.

Feel sure that some OCR software would be included in the scanner CD - it might be Omnipage, but you need to use the OCR function. Check the scanner control panel for an ocr option.

Can't be specific as I don't use OCR.

Omnipage is OCR (optical character reconition) software. However, the version that comes with scanners is the usual stripped down version.

The problem is that even best, most expensive OCR software is going to make mistakes. The versions that come with scanners is seldom anywhere close to "the best. "

During the scan, the software has to guess what each character is. The clearer the original, the better guesses it will be able to make.

If the original is a photocopy with fuzzy letters, dark areas, etc., the OCR software is going to make a lot of wrong guesses.

In addition, the more heavily formatted the original...tables, graphs, lines, graphics...the worse the scanned result will be.

I have yet to scan a document using OCR software that didn't need at least some editing to clean up mistakes. Scanning a document that was an application form, complete with lines to fill in and boxes to check, yielded a mess. I should have just gone ahead and typed the whole thing in instead of spending the hours I did correcting the scanned copy. ;)

You could try upgrading to Omnipage Pro's latest version, which is version 12.

You can check it out and order it from this page.

If you have a high-speed connection, you can download it...116.5 mg, $199.95

Do a Google search for "OCR software" before you decide. There are a number of products out there which might suit you better.
