I have recently started getting these red Xs in place of where a picture should be.

I have always had this problem somewhat, but recently I have been getting the red x on more and more sites. Today I had 2 red x's in a post on a message board that I visit and I right-clicked on the red x and then left-clicked on "show picture" and the picture appeared, but this is not always the case. This was the first time that I have ever gotten the picture to appear.

All other times the picture never appears. I have even started getting this red x in a couple of places on my home page, MSN.com and I have never had this problem.

Any help in getting rid of this red x and getting back the pictures will be greatly appreciated.

Drag Racer7272--As has been said, if you can access the picture by right clicking the RedX and then Show Picture, there is not much else you can do. It is just a download glitch.
However when that does not work, the possible solutions are many. Miz has given you a good reference. If they do not work some more ideas are here

It probably is mentioned in one or more of these that a firewall or popup/ad blocker could be the problem and must be disabled.

    Welshjim, Miz, and Lonny,

Thank you all for the info. concerning this RED X issue.

I have not yet tried any of these fixes, because I've been down with a bad back and I just now got back over here to see your posts.

I will try messing with this thing later on and I will make sure that I get back over here and let everyone know how it comes out.

    Thanks again,
    Chris

Well I have tried just about everything that has been advised from the previous posts and nothing seems to work.

Lonny Jones , I tried your fix first, being it was the easiest thing to try and that didn't do it.

Miz, I went thru all of the suggestions that was listed on the link that you gave me and tht didn't do anything either.

Welshjim, I also followed the links that you have posted and I didn't find anything that would make the mysterious Red X go away.

I saw this "Try using SFC to replace mshtml.dll. " in a previous post http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10233&highlight=red+x and was curious of how to do this.
I also have read something about changing Registry Keys or something like that and was wondering how to do that and should I be messing with stuff like that with me not having any experience in doing such.

I really appreciate the advice so far I did find some ideas for other things, now if anyone can help me with these few more questions above, I would really appreciate it.

Sorry for not knowing a whole lot.

    Drag Racer7272--
Have no clue whether this will cure your problem, but if you have System File Checker on your PC (it depends on the version of Windows) you might be interested in learning how to use it.
    http://support.earthlink.net/mu/1/psc/img/walkthroughs/windows_9x_nt/browsers/ie_5.0/5296.psc.html
You would substitute the name of the file you want to restore (like mshtml.dll) in place of rasapi32.dll in these instructions. And if your version of Windows came already on the PC, you would use C:\Windows\Opitons\Cabs in the Restore from line
Also, again depending on version of windows, you might want to try the IE Repair Tool (I cannot remember if that suggestion was in the various references you have already tried, and the following works only for non--WinXP PC's)
    Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|Tools|Internet Explorer Repair Tool|Wait. Reboot.
