I run a small network (2-3 computers) in my home office. Ethernet NICs to a D-Link 704 router (cable modem attached to router).

Used to have 1 Win ME tower and 1 Win 98SE tower (with a Win 98SE laptop occasionally). Both shared a H-P 882c as a network printer (off the ME tower).

Added a Win 2K Pro tower and took the Win 98SE tower off. Put the H-P printer on the Win 2K tower.

Got every thing on the same domain, work group, etc.

Problem: I can't install the H-P printer as a network printer on the Win ME tower. I use the 'add printer wizard' and get to the point where I browse the network for the printer - and then it tells me I need a password to browse the Win 2K tower for a printer.

I tried my administrator password and it rejects it.

Printer permissions are set to 'everyone'.

When I go to network properties on the Win 2K tower, and select 'print and file sharing' the 'properties' button is grayed out.

I did this in a snap under my previous network, now I'm totally confused.

    my guess

1.Find the printer on the win2k machine and open the properties
    >sharing tab>and give it a share name.
    2. Create user accounts on the win2k machine that match the logon of the 98 users.
3.Cross fingers and add printer to 98 machines!
