OK,we've just had a major power surge which blew a load of our kit.

We had some dodgy foriegn electricians in but the management wouldn't listen and now we are paying the price.
Anyhow I have had to move a hard drive from PC A into PC B.

Now PC B is booting from disk A - OK ,but obviously the system doesn't recognise half the hardware installed.
    (network card,video card,sound etc)
This is an old machine and the manufacturers have since gone bust.

I don't fancy spending hours hunting around the net so....

Is there any way I can get the required drivers off of disk B?

Both drives are running Win 95.

    Thanks.

In most cases you can get lucky.
Drivers are all in c:\windows\inf and it's subfolders, as well as c:\windows\system.

If you go into device mangler, and update each driver, one at a time, and browse between those two folders, you should recover just about everything.

    Thanks,

That worked for some devices but not all.
Still saved me a lot of time though.

So when I install a driver the complete file is copied into the Windows folder?

I found some in C:\windows itself and some in C:\windows\system.I don't have an inf folder though.

Is this pretty much the same all the way up to XP?

    Thanks again.

It's the same in all Windows OS's, except in XP (and maybe 2K) they'll be in c:\windows\system32
FYI You DO have a c:\windows\inf folder, but it's hidden.
When browsing for a driver, you can manually type that path into the box, and the system will look there, even though it's a hidden folder.

Ok guys... I've been trying to get a PDFwriter (print driver) on my w95 accessible to my networked XP. See this previous post. The w95/PDFwriter "test print" output list all the files used and the paths. Can I copy them over to the XP/appropriate paths and have a remote chance it will show up as a PDFwriter on the XP? Whats the odds it will work... good, maybe, somewhere inbetween wishful thinking and in your dreams.
