i have setup a network on my computer, and now every time i boot it up it asks for the network password. it did not do this prior to the network setup, i would greatly prefer for my computer just to boot up and start doing some of its automated tasks (that ive preset), but because of this it cant without having to enter that stupid password all the time:mad:.

So is there any way that you can set a default password for the network and/or have it so it doesnt ask you for it during boot up??

any help would be greatly appreciated,
    thx:cool:

"i have setup a network on my computer "
Sorry but I have no idea what that means.

You can certainly set up a default password that will be used when you start the computer as long as you also want to have a default username logged on.

Specifics will depend on what OS you run though and what sort of network (worgroups, domain, whatever) so you need to give more details.

    Hi ihate_vmm32dll

I'm sure newt will have a "true / correct solution" to your situation. My suggestion is a cheater. When I was hooked-up to cable ISP, all of a sudden my w95 asked for a network logon.... 1st time in 6 years. I found a simple solution in TweakUI 1.33 for all versions of windows, except for XP TweakUI Power Toys. I'm viewing from version 2.10, your view may be different... Just look for "Logon" in the left hand list, expand and click on "autologon ". Will bring up a view where you can enable "automatic logon ". Now when you start up the computer, TweakUI will managed the logon.

I am running windows ME, and have setup a home network using my ME as the main network computer(admin?). This network is setup so that my computer and a laptop in a room accross from me can have dsl access at the same time. I think that should be enough for details on what type of network it is, ask if any more is needed.

As for Dennis, I've been using TweakUI for quite some time now (it may be an older version). Thx for reminding me about its other capabilities though, I've mostly just used it to clear history and fix icons every now and then. When I get home I'll try what you said.

thx to both of you for your concern

ihate - hopefully (probably) the tweak will work. But the problem is puzzling in that ME shouldn't be worried about a network logon unless you are on either a Domain or a Netware (novell) network.

If you are using workgroupsand don't have any NT PCs (NT4/2K/XP) then even a password on any of your PCs shouldn't be needed unless you want them for additional security.

I have to wonder if you have a problem with a network card or the networking load on one of your PCs. Either that or the Primary Network Logon network setting is wrong.

Check the registry and see if you have the following key and if so, what value is set. It's not really a required key for your setup but if you have it, it will need to be 00 I think.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Network\Real Mode Net\AutoLogon
