Problem: I can't seem to write data from one computer to a remote computer.

    I have a 2 PC's at home connected via a router.
    Both PC's have WinXP Pro.
On machine 'A', I have mapped a drive to machine 'B's C: drive.
Machine 'B's C: drive is shared as are all folders in the hierarchy.

    I wanted to write a file to \\machineB\C_DRIVE\Documents and Settings\user1\My Documents\foobar
A window pops up saying I don't have permission to do so.

However, can write to just about anywhere else such as: \\machineB\C_DRIVE\Testdirectory

Note: I tried remapping the drive and specifying the user name and password.

What's up? Thanks for your suggestions.

If you mean both are plugged into ports on a router/switch, the switch is connecting them. To need a router, they would have to be on different networks which probably isn't the case.

I think all you will need to do (and some of this you probably already did) is

    - put them in the same workgroup
    - log on to each one with a username and non-blank password
    - put both user accounts with password in the user's section of both PCs. Exact match and case sensitive. Or logon with the same username/password to both machines which does the same thing.

I'll look at each one of these and report back. Thanks. I know I have some of these covered...
