I installed the new ATI display drivers and the new multimedia center. But the Multimedia Center has taken over all my multimedia file associations. It wants to open all my MP3s and Waves. I want them to open with IrfanView. I checked in the Windows registry and according to it, they're still associated with IrfanView. How can the registry say one thing, but another thing happen? Even when I shift+rightclick on the files and choose IrfanView from the list, it still opens in ATI media player (which doesn't work BTW).

There are generalised keys in the reg that over-ride the root
"Open" assignments. I would search the reg for the ATI player name and see if you can correct the problem.
Another approach eg with Irfan is to try and re-assign the file associations you want. to it.

    Shadowhawk,
Have a look at the settings for the ATI software. There is something there that probably makes it the default viewer for all multimedia files. I had a similar problem with REAL player taking over my MP3s, but I had to take a slightly more complicated route to fix it, rather than just disabling REAL player as the default. If you need to do it as well:

Open My Computer, click on View --> Options (might be folder options) --> File Types. Find the extension that is being misused. Under Actions, click on whatever action is in bold, and select "Edit ". You should then be able to change which program is used to open it.
