Just upgraded my PC to a AMD Athlon XP 1800 from a PIII 500.

I've noticed that the PSU (300w) seems to be getting very hot and the air that is coming out of the PSU Fan seems to be very hot.

Its getting so Hot that the Case is actually heating up. Is this Normal or should I be seeking advice.

I spent a lot of money on the Chip and the Motherboard and I don't want to burn them out my over heating it.

    Can someone please Help

    Peter:confused:

I would think that a 300w PSU would be sufficient. I haven't seen anything on AMD's website about upgrading to a 350w. Is your current PSU listed on AMD's site as being a recommended PS? Check the link.

It may just be that everything is generating more heat in your case so an additional exhaust fan may be necessary. An 1800 XP is going to generate much more heat than a pentium 500. Check out some cooling solutions at

    Hello Hex,
Welcome to the world of high performance CPU's.
Yes it's a blow drier and a foot warmer.
Just keep an eye on CPU temp to make sure you have adiquite air turnover and heat sink conductivity.
It depends on who's motherboard you have as to how you monitor temp.
Most motherboard Mfg's have a GUI tool to monitor temp, voltage, ect.
