    I use Netscape 7.02 running on Win98SE.

Since yesterday, when I try to delete an e-mail message, or move it to a different folder from the inbox, I can't do it. It just stays put.

What to I do to fix this? I want to delete my e-mail! How?

Before doing anything else, go to your profile, to the mail account, and delete only the files with .msf extention, with Netscape closed, from Windows Explorer.
Also, uncheck empty mail on exit.
Is this a standard pop3 ISP account? Profile and file location are: C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt\Mail\your account\Inbox.msf and Trash.msf

You may try to go to your e-mail account at your ISP (I assume it's ISP mail) web site, and empty all folders (except Inbox) there.
Secondly, if this is ISP based account "Empty Trash on Exit" should work fine. This option is not recommended for web based (eg. Netscape) mail accounts.

Thank you, everyone, for the help.

The problem, however, disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared. During the past few days, I rebooted several times, and opened and closed Netscape more times than that, and the problem persisted.

This morning, when I opened Netscape again (I didn't reboot), I found notification of your replies (thanks again) in my e-mail, so I tried deleting old e-mail messages again, and it worked this time! I didn't uncheck or check any boxes in e-mail settings ( "empty trash on exit" is unchecked), I didn't delete any files from my profile, but I can delete individual e-mail messages (and trash) again.

Has anybody seen any similar transient ( or shoud I say transcendental) phenomena and has any explanations?

Yeah...I think my Netscape is haunted, too:eek:
Couple of weeks ago, all of sudden sent mail kept pouring into a diffrent folder, that I asked it to. I even posted a question here, tried all kind of tricks to no avail.
Few days later, it stopped by itself.

new here, but couldn't help but identify with the mysterious email. Yep, it's happened to me, somedays I can't delete or move, then perhaps the next day it works fine. So, for now, I remain patient.

    Welcome to the Forum, zzsos!

    Hi zzsos,

A hint to the wise: on those days when your email is working... back up your Mail Folder, or better yet, your entire Profiles folder. Always a safe bet!
