    I have a friends Toshiba 1555CDS lap top with Win 98 installed. His son had it at college, and someone did the following to it:
    Everytime that you type anything on the keyboard, no matter where you are in the OS, it types the letters of a profanity. For instance, if you go start, run, the try to type in the Open box, each keystroke produces a different letter of a sentence that will produce a "profane" sentence. This sentence will reproduce over and over again even if you only hit one key, each keystroke produces a different letter of the sentence. Also, Ctrl, Alt, delete will not work.
    Any ideas on this situation?
    Thanks, Tom

    Thanks for the suggestion, it worked. I could not type in MSCONFIG, because all I would get was the message I did not want. Then I remembered that you can get to start up by going to start, programs, accessories, system tools, system information, tools, then system configuration utility. Its a longer way to get there, but it worked!
    Thanks, Tom

    SpyBot can clean all windows and IE user tracts,,
    I think that one is called search assistant,, do them all
    Get it, install, open in advanced mode update, right away and check for updates (about once a week or two),,
    click on the spybot icon in the left pain then look for file sets r/lower near bottom select all available checks and scan
    Best to have all windows closed.Might also use the immunize feature to.

    realix,

    Try "msconfig.exe ". If that fails, try searching for it, and if that fails, then it's been deleted somehow. If you find it, move it to the windows system folder (\windows\system) - I think. Someone w/a working w98 machine should search for it first and confirm that this is the proper location for the file

    Realix, Msconfig.Exe should be in the C:\Windows\System folder. Try this, Start\Run type in Regedit and press Enter, if you get an error here also, go to these links.
    Housecall, online AV scan
    Online Trojan Scan
    You can replace either of these files by Start\Run type in SFC and press Enter, select Extract one file from installation disk, type in "c:\windows\system\msconfig.exe" in the white box there, click on Start in the SFC window and follow the prompts as to where the Win CD or where your setup files are located.[c:\windows\options\cabs].
    If Regedit is missing, use this line;
    c:\windows\regedit.exe
