I just installed a new MOBO, processor, and ram RAM. I
reinstalled a fresh copy windows XP pro (no format) and windows update hangs after the updates are
downloaded. I've tried all of the fixes I could found that
nothing seems to work. I cancled after the
instalation hung and windows update had to be closed by
ctrl-alt-del. I've tried installing updates one at a time and still nothing. So I went to the C:\WUtemp folder to try and install them manualy. I got 2 to work, but the others all hang when the installation program gets to creating a restore point. I've exhausted microsoft's help topics. nothings seems to help. Please, Please
    help me.

I've gone through and through the microft site, nothing is helping. I've tried regestry fixes that I found on this forum, manualy installing them from explorer, changing the CATROOT2 folder, plus a few other things. I let update run all day today and it did eventualy install, but that's about 5 hours. I can't figure out why it's so slow. I just tried to install one small update and I let it sit there for about 30 min. It downloads very quickly but it will not install. I'm so frustrated.

I know it can be fustrating, I had problems with windows updates a while ago and I found some more answers on this page http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/win_xp_update.htm

Kelly's Corner is one of the best resources around, I recomend it to anyone!! Good luck.
