    have been experiencing the following:

    1) cant "cut and paste" no mo' in ms environment within any individual programs or cross programs

    2) ms word - upon startup states "document cant be registered" and "no links can be made" and 'VBE environment not available "

    3) ms outlook - link to message storage which previously worked now says "unable to display the folder"

    4) in loading something new error message "RPC server is unavailable" pops up, no load

    5) in system tools, add/remove programs, enter
my header is all jumbled, does not display programs and does not work

    6) in internet explorer, click on links does not always work, meaning i go to a page, hover on a link, click the hand, nothing happens, i stay on the same web page (good example while writing this i clicked on "check message length" nothing happens

    7) i have been to "housecall" several times to scan and always receive message, that site is not authorized to download "housecall" which i find curious since it is their site

    8) left arrow key sticks (i think i can fix this one)

i got some issues here, not sure of origin(s) - appreciate some input, presently have no antivirus software installed - peace

    forgot one more!
    1) when shutting down system, it will not "shut off" through windows, i have to shut power off manually to turn system off

    continuing permutations UPDATE!

    1) downloaded service pack 4- crashed during installation, upon reboot have now lost MS OUTLOOK, assumed it is archived somewhere

    2) downloaded service pack 3 - seemed to install succesfully, manual reboot, scarey beep, beep, beep noises upon startup, lagging at windows installation, hit return key twice, seemed to get it unstuck, in installation, windows error message "shutting down" shows up

    3) manual reboot, scarey noises repeated, F8, they are gone, actually went through all startup, up and running, except now, i have lost MS WORD, starts to boot up then disappears.

    4) considering downloading computer through nearest unopened window with semi scenic view of downtown Clearwater, may try virus patch downloads as alternative

Your shutting down proglem is the only one I've had but I have some different ones you don't have. I enabled advanced power management and then it shut down like it was supposed to.

You have at least one virus and probably several (or more).

If you can't run Housecall from Here then try the Symantec site and get each of the removal tools listed on that page then run them - one at a time though. That should deal with most of the newer stuff and will hopefully get you in shape to run a full scan at the housecall site.

No way to tell until you've cleaned up some if your system can be returned to stable, normal operations or if you'll have to format and reinstall your OS from the beginning.
