How do I stop the names of previously opened programs, folders, documents and internet sites appearing below the "Open:" name insert box when using the "Run" command? I know XP is trying to be helpful but its driving me crazy!

Go to Control Panel, click on Taskbar & Startup Menu and when it opens select the Start Menu Tab

If you are using Windows XP Menu click on customize, select the Advanced Tab and click on Clear List.

If you are using the Classic Start Menu, click on customize, and click on Clear.

Either of these will remove all the entires from your Open Run drop down box as well as your recent documents list on the start menu.

    Hope this helps. :)

thanks for your help but no dice

thanks for getting back to me with your suggestion Rod; I really appreciate your help.
i followed your clear instructions to the letter but unfortunately the "problem" is still persisting i.e. whenever i try to load anything using "Run" as i'm filling in the name of any files, documents or internet sites in the "Open:" entry box a list of previously used names appears below the box (the length of the list shortening as you proceed to enter the full name as it increasingly deviates in spelling from the suggested name). like i said i know this feature is only trying to help but its driving me mad. any bright ideas?!
    thanks again for your help:p

    Sorted!

    hey cleanlawn,
thanks for getting back to me.
looks like i've managed to solve the problem (temporarily at least) by going into my control panel>network and internet connections>internet options>content>autocomplete>clear forms>ok. this seems to have cleared all the stored internet addresses that were persisting. however, i still haven't found a way to turn this facility off so its starting to reaccrue new addresses, file and document names etc from scratch but hey i'll keep looking.
thanks for the tip about Power Tools; i'll check it out.
    thanks again.:)

mark.reeves--Go back into the Tools|Internet Options|Content|AutoComplete window and uncheck the boxes "Use AutoComplete for" boxes, then OK. IE should no longer save typed addresses/commands, etc.
