The CD Player program on my son's computer will hang when he tries to listen to a second CD. He has to use Ctrl-Alt-Delete or shut down to get it closed. The only time he can use the program is by shutting down and restarting.

I have tried reinstalling the program, but it does not help. There have been no new programs or hardware installed recently. There is also Media Player and WinAmp3 installed on the system. They all three got along before, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any suggestions without removing the other players? Thanks!

The program is the one that comes with Win98. Under Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/CD Player. Sorry I didn't make that clear the first time.

Could be a file association problem.
Why not use Winamp for everything? It's so much better!
When you reinstalled, did you restart the computer after uninstall?

    reboot,

That's what I suggested to him, but for some reason he likes the CD Player. Yes, I did restart the system after uninstalling the program. Any ideas as to why it would work after a restart? Could it be that the program is not completely shutting down?

It's probably loading a library, and this works once. The library must then be closed before it'll work again. Just a corrupt file, but who knows which one? I can't determine it here, I have no 98 machine to look at, sorry.
I would think that if you checked in Winamp's preferences, you might disassociate it with playing audio CD's, and see if that helps. It's possible the first plays, because of the way it's opened, but the second won't, because Windows can't figure out what program to use to play it.

    reboot,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I messed around with the CD program and WinAmp again. It didn't help any. Then for some reason, I started looking at Windows Media Player. I uninstalled that and tried the CD program again. Everything seems to work now. I put one disk in and then another right after, without closing the program. Then I played one, closed the program, and played another. Everytime, the CD Player program worked fine. Media Player must have been the culprit.

    Thanks for your help!
