Let me explain what I know happened in the hope it may help to troubleshoot this problem. I was away for the weekend when I lost power. The computer comes on OK but I have a icon on my desktop that when clicked brings up two windows. The top window has a heading saying "Error Starting Program" the window says" The Windows 2000-KB82390-x86-ENV.EXE file is linked to missing export NTL.DLL:NtShutdownSystem ". When I click the OK button a second window appears with a heading saying "C:\Windows\Desktop\Windows 2000-KB82390-x86-Env.exe" The window states "A device attached to the system is not functioning. "
I have tried to reinstall that device(my printer) and I can't because of the missing file. Is there a way to correct this situation without reformatting my PC? I don't want to lose all my other information.
Any help would be apreciated and please try to go easy on an old computer geek.
    Thanks--

    Hogryder Welcome to Windows BBS

Had you left the PC on when you left ?
Do you have a surge protector (not just a cheapo like I had)
Best to get one and a good one ,usualy about 40 bucks.....
Was IT connected to the Internet ?

Why fight this instead just use a system restore point to before the problem,, preferably two point before..

If you still have problems disconnect the device ,, in addremove remove the software,,read the softwares notes, thuraly,,
on exactly how to install uninstall they can be very specific

    regards
    Lonny

    Help for missing file....

Thank you for responding Lonny! I appreciate it. I was able to find a "fix ", not sure how it worked, but it did. I had tried your "sys. restore" fix but it still carried that window icon with it. I ended up using the start>settings>printer>and then in the printer window I clicked on add a printer and allowed the PC to find it's own driver. It worked when it hadn't worked before! I don't get it but, like they say, "don't fix it if it aint broke! "
    Thanks again,
