How do I modify the new mail notification on the welcome page below my user account?

I have an email account at Hotmail that I want to keep private and the welcome screen is showing that I have unread mail there.

Don't register it with .Net messenger or Outlook express. All email accounts in OE or .NET show at the welcome screen when their is new mail.

You need to get a program called TweakUI. Its part of the XP powertoys. Once you've got it, load it and click the + by logon. Click on unread mail then deselect the tick box by 'Show unread mail on welcome screen'. You can then choose if you want that for just you or all users. Click ok, and you're all done.

I had set up Hotmail in Outlook but had already deleted it. So there was no mail accounto delete.

I downloaded TweakUI as suggested and solved the problem.

Thanks so much. There is much to learn.
