How do I do that? Use ftp without a telephone connection, just an ethernet one (via cross-over cable) between 2 computers that don't want to talk to each other (laptop WinXP Home, desktop PC Windows 98SE). I can't use the phone from me to me, so how the heck do I do it? it doesn't say in the job specifications of either WS_FTP (that I used for uploading files to my web-site) or AceFTP that I have started playing with now.
    Thanks

Set up one machine as the host, running the FTP server, and have the other machine connect to it by IP address. Although slower and more cumbersome than networking, it does work.
I have never had trouble networking any version of windows with any other, just use NetBEUI protocall on all machines. The version that ships with Win98, works on 95a, 95b, 98, 98se and ME. The version that ships with XP works on 2k/XP. Don't ask me about NT ;)
If all your other networking attempts have failed, usually because of different windows releases, NetBEUI will work. It's too simple.
