    Hi,

I am having a Phantom Device show up in my Device Manager with the system saying as it loads'...found other device...' then it tries to search for the drivers which it can't find...How do I rid myself of this 'Other Device' so it won't be looking for drivers every time I boot uP....thanks, jongru

I'm having the same problem with my system. I'm not even sure what's causing it. Except mine are usb devices that are trying to be installed.

    Hi

You both need to provide more information .

    what OS ?
    what happens exactly
what had you been doing prior ?

IF you can figure out what device it is you can go into safe mode >
device manager and remove , have your windows CD handy
window will put back the necessary one's if needed, or if you make a mistake.
If its an OEM without a windows CD thats OK it will know where to look , so let (her)windows search for the device and drivers

Its common on some PCs for more devices to show in device manager than a regular win startup. Because most often it was something the OEM manufacturer had installed or caused by us
when we install a new device without properly uninstalling the old one sometimes its just an improperly written installer Uninstaller,,

You can start dxdiag to find these unknown devices
so go start run > dxdiag and run its tests to (not necessary because we just want to see if theres any unknown devices
then have it save report.way down in the report should be your unknown device's
then startup in safe mode > device manager highlight the device and choose remove

You might better let the forum what they are if any, FIRST
AND the VERSION of WINDOWS please, could be other things as well..
    regards
    Lonny

    phantom drivers

    Hi All,

I thought I had this licked before. I installed an ati 7500 and was booting to a blank screen. I found out the card was not installed properly. I then was referred to the ati download site and thought I was getting the right drivers. I am not sure if they were right for my windows 98se system.

Anywho, it caused other devices trying to load everytime I rebooted. I tried to get rid of them and finally did a system restore a few days back. Back to normal, but still like to know why I had the minor problems with other devices trying to load. I only downloaded one file of three from ati thinking it would be all I needed. Maybe that was the problem....Thanks, jongru:p

OS and is it current ?
If its win me I can help , haven't had this exact problem but have had problems with the ATI 7500 radeon ,with updating it,,
    Mine is a PCI though.what yours ?

Best thing don't update it unless you have performance problems
or problems you can attribute to the card definitely.
Ive been round and round at there web site and with support
with no help ,, they did finally respond But just gave a broiler plate
answer sheet that coved supposedly all os's

Problem is in my mind do to the fact that win ME is unlike what was before it and after it so its extremely had for programmers to write anything for it. and mostly they don't care, anymore.

Cant believe im going to say this BUT,, since we have problems
with what ati offers ,, it might be best to use the windows udate
catolog to get what windows wants for ATI.

    Hi Lonnie,

Thanks for the input. I don't think I am going to worry about it, the card seems to be working properly and I don't use the tv in or out functions. In fact I never use any of it except for the recording of a digital slideshow to vhs tape. Other than that I think I have a lot of unupgraded items like the athlon cpu I am using is a 650mhz. My system tells me to upgrade to a 1 ghz unit. I might do that, and also the Bios is quite old, but never had a problem. I will chug along. If I keep getting errors then I might have to take drastic measures...thanks, jongru
